Del Crawford was responsible for client coordination, design, project management and construction management of a team that developed a cemetery to honor North Carolina veterans. The project consisted of a maintenance facility, administrative building, interment shelter, 5,400 interment sites, 1,200 urn sites, landscape plantings, and a flag court representing the branches of military service. The grounds were designed in a geometric pattern comprised of a series of rooms that evolved from two main drives. The designs of the administrative building and interment shelter followed the same theme and were located along a center axis of the cemetery along an access loop. Work required very close coordination with the design team, State Construction Office, State Veterans Affairs Office and veteran groups. Furthermore, the project required close contact with various regulatory agencies due to the presence of on-site wetlands and endangered species near the project development.
